Wilec upgrades and expands conductor lines at Olifantsfontein plant

Wilec has upgraded and expanded the polyimide film-covered and paper-covered conductor production plants at its Olifantsfontein manufacturing facility.

The expansion and upgrade of the polyimide film-covered copper conductor plant, commenced late 2014 and completed in February 2015, comprised the purchase and installation of two new state-of-the-art production lines to add to three existing lines.

Wilec’s Envirotemp ester dielectric oil seminar well received

Wilec recently hosted a two-day seminar on Envirotemp ester dielectric transformer oil for potential local users of the product.

The seminar, staged at the Emperor’s Palace conference centre in Kempton Park in March, was presented by two experts from Cargill Industrial in the US, the producers and suppliers of Envirotemp oils, now offered by Wilec in the local market.

The seminar was attended by representatives of a cross-section of potential users, including original equipment manufacturers, mining companies, municipalities and Eskom.

The presenters were David Roesser, Global General Manager, Dielectric Fluids, and John Luksich, Principal Engineer of Cargill Industrial, whose presentations covered all aspects of the topic in detail.

Wilec’s expands its conductor manufacturing capacity ‘to meet market demand’

Wilec has substantially increased the capacity of its conductor manufacturing facility after acquiring additional production plant equipment recently.

As a result of its expanded production capacity, it now produces about 25% more enamelled wire than previously and in excess of 30% more bare conductor and covered conductor.

In addition, the division’s output of both non-specialised and specialised coverings has increased, with the specialised Kapton polymide film and glass coverings in particular boosted to double their previous production levels.

Furthermore, several products that Wilec didn’t previously manufacture are now being produced at its Olifantsfontein plant. These include Double Mica and Mica Mylar, among several others.

Wilec achieves breakthrough with newly-launched Envirotemp ester dielectric oil for transformers

Wilec, the ACTOM group’s division specialising in the supply of input materials for transformer and electric motor manufacturers and repairers, has made rapid progress in winning acceptance in the market place for its recently launched environmentally-friendly, non-mineral oil for transformers.

The company, which introduced Envirotemp biodegradable ester dielectric oil into the local market earlier this year after securing  distributorship rights for it in Southern Africa from Cargill, the international US-based producer and supplier of food, agricultural and industrial products, won a R 1.5-million order for supply of Envirotemp natural oil, FR3, for use in a total of 70 new distribution transformers being supplied for  installation in a number of Anglo Platinum’s mines near Rustenburg in North-West Province.

“Anglo Platinum, in conjunction with DRA Mineral Projects, their consulting engineers, have been looking at switching from mineral oil to ester dielectric oil for use in their transformers for some time. The entry of Envirotemp in the local market has provided them with the opportunity to do so,” explained Louis Blom, Wilec’s Sales & Marketing Executive.
